The nonprofit organization Children in the Wilderness (CITW) provides an environmental and life skills educational program for the rural children of Africa. We support this effort with eco-compost training and supplies so the children can cultivate their fruit trees and vegetable gardens, all of which include protective fencing near each school’s water supply. The gardens supplement the Ngamo and Ziga schools’ nutrition programs and also serve as farming and agricul tural classrooms. The children study a new type of farming, one that yields more than extensive fields which are hard to manage and protect. Through such experiential learning, the children may become Africa’s leaders in sustainable conservation in the future.
